TEXTILES 9

​

This course is designed as an introduction course for those interested in fashion and sewing, building on the skills learned in Applied Skills 8. Students will get to select their own commercial pattern to make cozy pajamas or onesie, a skirt or short with a zipper and a stretch t-shirt.  You will also start your fashion portfolio as you learn about fashion illustration, culture and fashion, learn about historical fashion eras and its influence on modern clothing today and the elements of fashion design (the key to an amazing wardrobe). This course stresses machine sewing and serger techniques required for fashion construction.  There is no homework in this course and marks come from the work you create in class.

TEXTILES 10

​

 

This course is for students who have successfully completed Textiles 9 or an entry-level sewing course and are interested in fashion construction.  You will start by sewing a hoodie with a separating zipper, then a pant/jean with a fly front zipper. Basic pattern alteration as well as the fundamentals of design will be covered. Use of the serger as well as decorative machine stitching will also be incorporated. In Textiles 10 you continue to develop your portfolio as you learn about the principles of design, study an international designer of your choice, learn about Fast Fashion and the social and environmental concerns it has with in the fashion industry. There is no homework in this course and marks come from the work you create in class.

TEXTILES 11

This Textiles 11 class is perfect for advanced, sewing students who have passion for fashion.   Students will also get the opportunity to familiarize with International designers. Students are encouraged to pick project that will not only challenge their skills but to also incorporate new skills that will expand their knowledge of fabric construction. Projects are self-chosen with teacher consultation. You will continue to develop your portfolio by creating a client style board, learning about up-cycling a garment and studying an international fashion designer of your choice.  There is no homework in this course and marks come from the work you create in class.

TEXTILES 12

This Textiles 12 class is perfect for advanced, self-motivated students who are considering applying to a post secondary school to study fashion design.  Advanced sewing techniques, pattern alterations, principles of design as well as techniques needed for working with specialty fabrics will be taught. Students will also get the opportunity to familiarize with Canadian designers. Students are encouraged to pick project that will not only challenge their skills but to also incorporate new skills that will expand their knowledge of fabric construction. Projects are self-chosen with teacher consultation. You will continue to develop your portfolio by creating a client style board, looking at the B.C. fashion industry, and studying a local BC Fashion Designer of your choice.  There is no homework in this course and marks come from the work you create in class.

Textiles Project List

You will create 3 projects in Textiles.  One from a commercial pattern, one that is up-cycled from an existing garment and  the third project will be your choice.  Students should pick a project that suites their sewing level.  Here is a list of suggested projects or techniques that each sewing grade should learn.  Remember this is a suggestion only, students are encouraged to pick any project that excites and challenges them to create.

Introduction To Fashion Illustration

Drawing is fun with the help of Croquis, here are the three basic sheets.  Today's Drawing exercise involves a 5 minutes quick sketch of yourself, then try the same sketch using a croquis.  What your proportions and drawing improve in just 5 minutes.
