Ms. Jackson

Welcome to my class!  I have taught Home Economics in Richmond since 2005.  My courses currently include: Applied Skills 8, Textiles 9 - 12, Fashion Industry 12, and Foods 9/10. I grew up in British Columbia and earned a B.A.D in Fashion Design and Technology from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, received a Minor in Family Studies from University of British Columbia and an B. Ed. in Home Economics Secondary Education, also from University of British Columbia.  Before becoming a teacher I worked in a Costume Studio designing and creating costumes for the stage, television, and film.

Many of my previous textile students have gone on to study Fashion at Vancouver Community College, University of the Fraser Valley, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and Toronto Metropolitan University (formally Ryersons) in Canada; Parsons, Fashion Institute of Technology, and Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in the United States of America; and Central Saint Martins in the United Kingdom.

You can usually find me in either D137 (the Sewing Lab) or D135 (the Foods Lab).

HOME ECONOMICS: So much more then Cooking and Sewing!

Exposure to Home Economics courses is a tremendous advantage for all students.  Home Economics education helps develop valuable life skills as students learn about health and nutrition, the safe handling and preparation of foods, and the creation of delicious meals and innovative textiles projects.

  • Students gain hands-on-skills that can change their lives and the lives of others around them

  • Students will use what they learn every day of their lives

  • Students have the opportunity to discover their own abilities, and develop a curiosity to learn more.

  • Students develop positive self esteem, creativity,  time management skills and global awareness

Home Economics

  – it’s a course for life
